In Memoriam at
Saint Laurent Rive Gauche

The Yves Saint Laurent funeral will be held today in Paris, and while it is morbid to speculate about the entertainment value of such events, well, we would probably give our eyeteeth to attend it.
In memory of it's founder, the windows at YSL Rive Gauche on West 57th Street were empty of merchandise, and though its hard to see through the glare on the window, the right hand display holds only two bare, black bust forms while the left shows a statement that reads as follows:
The entire Yves Saint Laurent organization is overwhelmed by the news of Monsieur Saint Laurent's death. His unmatched genius revolutionized the world of fashion and left on it an inimitable mark.
We are profoundly saddened by his passing, yet also humbled by the great heritage he leaves with us. The DNA of a brand is essential and Stefano Pilati and I will do all in our power to preserve it.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and particularly with Pierre Bergé.
Valerie Hermann
CEO of Yves Saint Laurent
We were a bit surprised and disappointed that, from what we could gather, none of the big department stores that have carried Saint Laurent over the years and continue to do so today, made even a small window display in memory of the designer. He certainly had a profound impact on their offerings over the years, as well as brought them loads of customers. Perhaps it was too destructive to their carefully planned window schedules.
UPDATE:
Forgive us, Bergdorf Goodman.
Sorry for the blurry phone-photo.
The luxe retailer joined YSL Rive Gauche and devoted a small Fifth Avenue window to Saint Laurent with text as follows:
"The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of the man she loves. But for those who haven't had the fortune of finding this happiness, I am there."
