Well, that's making it literal.
We have always understood a private sale to mean a clearance event either not announced to the general public, or only revealed to a select group of special customers.
James Perse has set that concept on its ear by advertising his "Private" sale on his windows, but covering them so that the usual open view inside both his Bleecker Street stores is utterly obscured.
It does make one wonder exactly what's going on in there.
The sale is over...

Again the only private sales I have ever heard of are either organised to clear stock in stores on the high street or on invite-only websites like vente-privee.com
