UNIQLO Prepares For +J Redux Next Week

After a frenzy last October, UNIQLO is planning a more controlled, three delivery rollout for its exclusive +J collection by the designer Jil Sander. The store appears to have made the sheer drape a signature of sorts for the collection. Last season it enclosed a shop within the store for the labels launch, but this time around it appears that southern portion of the flagship store will, at least temporarily, be made into a +J boutique, enclosing a larger space with better shelves and access to fitting rooms. For now, that section of the store is closed off in preparation. In addition, the huge display case at the entrance is also obscured by sheer curtains to create anticipation for the new delivery.
Early birds will be rewarded next Thursday as the store will be opening at 8 AM from January 14th through the 16th, and at 9 AM on Sunday the 17th to accommodate crowds and hopefully relieve eager shoppers of the discomfort of waiting outside on the sidewalk during one of what is expected to be one of the coldest weekends of the Winter so far.
We said hopefully.
Last Season's début collection found a lot of happy customers, so we presume they will all be back for a second helping on Thursday. Dress warmly and be prepared to wait.
On the plus side, there are lots of great pieces from last fall's +J line left and reduced including an abundance of men's sportcoats and outerwear for well under $100. Be advised that most of what we saw was from the additional replenishment of Japanese production merchandise which runs about a full size smaller than what one might typically expect from UNIQLO here. Be sure to try everything on before buying.
