It's around this time of Fashion Week that The Shophound likes to reveal the coveted contents of the big gift bags that are distributed to registered press at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This bag, full of swag from sponsors, has been an expected part of Fashion Week since back at the beginning of the 7th on Sixth tents in Bryant Park, but when The Shophound stuck our head into the press trailer this morning to pick up a gift bag voucher, a polite but weary eyed staffer looked at us sympathetically and said, "Oh, we're not doing those anymore".
So, that's over.
Of course, it's worth noting that over the past few years, the Press bag has gotten smaller, and less bountiful, and the swag has become even less useful and interesting to us, but still, we have an inflated sense of entitlement, and we want our bag of free s#!t. Perhaps its just a part of the diminishing relevance of MBFW in the general scheme of Fashion Week. The way things are going, we wouldn't be surprised if, in a few seasons, we wind up going through an entire fashion week without actually having to go to the tents at all.
