Yoga Mecca Lululemon Athletica is making a stand for the souls of all the yogis and yoginis of the Upper West Side as it plans to open a second store on Broadway at 75th Street only 11 blocks up the street from its original West Side store at 64th Street. In what feels like a case of "quick, grab it before anyone else gets it" the chain revealed its plans by posting a job listing for the upcoming location's store manager position on its website. The store will take over a recently vacated Chase bank location right down the block from Barneys Co-op, and breaks up the well trod food store trail that runs from Fairway to Citarella to Westside Market to Zabar's. The folks at My Upper West have confirmed all this intrigue as they note that between EMS, JackRabbit Sports, a pair of Modell's and Athleta, the West Side has gotten a rapid infusion of athletic stores of nearly every kind over the past couple of years. With that kind of aggressive expansion plan, Lululemon should take a look at 86th & Broadway, where the Gap has left another high-profile corner property empty for the taking. It's only another 11 blocks away. Why break the pattern?
