By the end of this year, Yohji Yamamoto will have increased his retail presence in Manhattan fourfold. Having opened two shops in the West Village this past February for his main collection and Y-3, the only question was what Yohji would do with the space of Greene Street that formerly housed the not particularly dearly departed Sharper Image, especially since the large flagship boutique is located only a few blocks away on Grand Street.
Well, wonder no more. The space will be devoted to a new collaboration between the Japanese designer and Italian luggage and accessory brand Mandarina Duck produced under his more casual Y's brand. As for what sort of product this collaboration will bear, we will have to wait for fall when the store opens at 98 Greene Street.
