Breaking Food News:Whole Foods Finally
Discovers The East Side
Discovers The East Side
August 5, 2008
Whole Foods Market has reportedly found a location worthy of its entry into the East Side.
While the increasingly popular market already has five Manhattan locations, they are mostly clustered downtown. All except one are below 25th Street, and the only one East of Broadway is all the way down on the Bowery and Houston Street. A sixth store is planned for West 97th Street, but what about all those rich zip codes on the other side of Central Park?
Relief is in sight if you can wait until 2012. That's when a new 47,000 square foot Whole Foods is set to open in a new building planned for 250 East 57th Street between Second and Third Avenues. It will still be a hike for most of the 10021 zone and above, but we are confident that the new store will have checkout lines rivaling Columbus Circle's interminable evening queues. It will also set up some stiff (and much needed) competition for Food Emporium's majestic but not always well stocked Bridgemarket showplace.
Now, if ony the folks at Trader Joe's would get off their asses...
