The Endless Denim Supply:Rock & Republic To Hit SoHo

With More Jeanzzzzzzz...

Here's a list of the monobrand denim stores in SoHo we can think of off the top of our head:
True Religion
AG Adriano Goldschmeid
Von Dutch
7 For All Mankind
Hilfiger Denim
Lucky Brand Jeans
Jean Shop
G-Star (2)
Levi's
That's not even including all the multibrand shops like Lounge, Barneys Co-op and others , so it hardly seems like SoHo needs another jeans store.
Oh silly, there's never too many jeans stores, which is why Rock & Republic is opening a store at 102 Greene Street next Spring.
Of course, R&R would bristle at being called a mere jeans line. Like 7 For All Mankind, they are now a lifestyle brand. Despite the fact that no actual designer for the brand immediately comes to mind (and, honestly, we have never been able to figure out what the name Rock & Republic actually means), they are even getting ready to launch an expensive, elaborately packaged makeup line. It hardly seems like an organic brand extension for them, but then again, fashion has become a race to see who can add more ancillary products regardless of how relevant they might be. It's also something of a risky move since many bigger designers have stumbled in launching color cosmetics.
At this point, we wouldn't mind a seeing a return to the days when designers turned their noses up at excessive licensing and overbranding, but until then, there will be no shortage of denim in SoHo for the foreseeable future.
