Boo Economy! Christopher Street's [hus]
To Bow Out
To Bow Out
February 9, 2009
Call us delusional, but we are trying to reel in the doom and gloom in our posting these days because we don't want you, cherished readers, to click away from The Shophound in search of a stiff shot of hemlock.
Unfortunately, a bit of bad new crosses our desktop that we can't ignore, and this week it is the announced closure on March 1st of [hus], the Scandinavian themed boutique that only opened just over two years ago. Owner Steen Knigge cites the economy which has been particularly brutal to independent fashion retailers. The store is going out with a sale on its clothing (60%), Tretorn sneakers (70%) and accessories (50%) among its other goods which include jewelry, cosmetics and home furnishings all representing authentic Scandinavian style.
This makes The Shophound particularly sad since we felt that [hus] added something different to the shopping scene. Here's hoping that Mr. Knigge is able to regroup when things get better with another equally appealing shop.
