NEW YORK FASHION WEEK • SPRING 2011:

Inside The Gift Bag

TheGiftBag

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is long over, but we didn't forget about our seasonal gift bag post. In fact, the coveted Press Bag from IMG and its sponsors is somewhat diminished compared to a few years ago. It's still full of stuff, just not as much as it used to have. In fairness, some of the repetitive items (Chambord flacons, bottle openers) are now gone, now replaced by some other soon to be repetitive items (DHL's garment bag). Gift website Cambria Cove sponsored the bag which is a bit roomier and more attractive than it has been for the past few seasons. Certainly some prizes, like the Sunglass Hut eyeglass care kit, are welcome and useful bits of swag, while others (jar of gumballs, anyone?) are maybe less so. At any rate, the contents of the gift bag are as follows:

DHL Fashion Week garment bag
18 oz. begoodtopeople.com glass bottle filled with gumballs
Metropolitan Opera Season Calendar
45g Muscle Milk Light protein bar
Kim Crawford neoprene wine bottle insulator/holder
"Weil" spiral notebook from Cambria Cove
5.7 oz. can of TRESemmé Fresh Start dry shampoo
Sunglass Hut eyeglass care kit
Maybelline "The Falsies" Volume Express mascara
.8 oz. bag of Pop Chips
500 ml bottle of Fiji Water
15ml bottle Essie "Little Brown Dress" nail polish
Eileen Fisher silk crinkle chiffon scarf
Starbuck's "Frappucino" mini-Moleskine notebook
Compact folding umbrella with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week logo
"Fashion From Spain" coffee mug
Ideeli invitation card with $25 credit.
W Residences "W" shaped lollipop
$200 gift certificate from Ajune Center for Beauty Synergy

It  must be said that the swag level remains low in general at Fashion Week, and, though we actually attended fewer shows than in some seasons, we received only two bona fide gift bags, which is pretty meager. One was from Betsey Johnson, whose bag, like herself, occasionally bordered on the inappropriate (thong underwear? Really?):

Redken Wax Blast 10 High Impact Finishing Spray Wax
Betsey Johnson mesh thong underwear
Betsey Johnson hot pink cotton socks
Stila Black Diamond mascara
Small spray flacon of XOX Betsey fragrance

The other one came from Pamella Roland's presentation at the Whitney Museum, and it was as random as her guest list (The seen everywhere Denise Richards, Charlotte Ross, Real Housewife Romona Singer, Hoda Kotb and then two-time Oscar Winner Hilary Swank, clearly slumming in that company). Roland's bag, surprisingly had some pricey beauty products, including a $165 tub of moisturizer and a $60 compact, and then a cheap looking beaded bracelet. The whopping "Gift Certificate" from Chopard is only of any use if you are looking to spend an even more whopping amount there (for which you couldn't be blamed). Here are the contents of the Pamella Roland bag:

Laura Mercier Zen Face Palette
2 oz. RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream
"Evil Eye" beaded bracelet
Chopard $1,000 gift card (valid only on minimum of $5,000 purchase. Damn)
