Auction house Christie's has officially confirmed after much rumoring that it will be selling the possessions of the late Elizabeth Taylor later this year in a series of auctions in various locations yet to be determined. The events will include clothing, art, but most notably her legendary jewelry collection.
Details are expected to be announced later this month, but conventional wisdom suggests that the auctions will encourage the sort of wild spending on mundane memorabilia that marked similar events for Marilyn Monroe and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to name a few. And then there are those famous jewels, which would presumably include the Krupp Diamond (pictured), La Peregrina Pearl, the Taylor-Burton Diamond, the Taj Mahal Diamond and the Grand Duchess Vladimir Suite, among others, whose value is almost impossible to estimate given their quality and celebrity provenance.
More information is expected soon.
