FLAGSHIP FANFARE: Dolce & Gabbana Headed
To Fifth Avenue?
To Fifth Avenue?
July 15, 2011
WWD is featuring an unconfirmed report that Dolce & Gabbana will be opening a "major flagship" on Fifth Avenue in the space currently occupied by Escada which is expected to relocate to an unspecified location elsewhere. There is no indication whether or not the Italian design team's Madison Avenue Flagship would remain in place. That store was dramatically expanded into a major flagship itself only a few years ago. The new store would be located at 715 Fifth Avenue, between 55th and 56th Streets, right next to Giorgio Armani's immense brand palace, and renovations would reportedly include a major redesign of the building's frontage to emphasize the brand statement. The article left many questions unanswered, such as when the new store would open, and questioned whether the store would carry the D&G diffusion collection, despite the fact that it was widely reported in March that the secondary label was likely to be merged into the main line sometime next year. An anonymous real estate source was credited with the information, so until an official announcement is made, a grain of salt may be in order.
