SALE REMINDER: Surveying Simon Spurr's Sample Sale
November 18, 2011
We are having such fun with alliteration this week.
The Shophound can only be two places at once, so we didn't get to stop by Simon Spurr's VIP sample sale preview Wednesday night because we were at the Housing Works Fashion for Action VIP Preview. Oh, the life of a VIP. So busy!
Anyway, we stopped by on Thursday because, why would we want to miss that entirely? It has been a busy sample sale season, but if you have any resources left and you are a (preferably slender) fan of Mr. Spurr's sleek take on classic menswear, then you shouldn't miss his sale. Prices looked to be around wholesale levels, and while there weren't piles of goods (Spurr still has a relatively small company) there was a good selection from both his premium line and less expensive (but not exactly cheap) Spurr label including lots of his signature slim jeans, and some excellent outerwear. If you are lucky enough to have model-sized feet, there was a small selection of runway boots for a mere $40.
What wasn't there was a crowd. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, eager shoppers were waiting for over an hour in the halls of the same West Chelsea building for Thom Browne's sample sale (seriously, this building is Men's Designer Central with Spurr, Brown, Adam Kimmel and Michael Bastian all under the same roof). The Spurr showroom was so serenely quiet and tidy, It almost felt like we had been invited for a private shopping session. The sale runs through this Saturday after which, we should be able to call the bulk of the Sample Sale season pretty much over.
