YOUR WEEKEND PLAN:

Feed Yourself Well At Paper Magazine's Super (Duper) Market

PaperSuperDuperMarket
It looks like it's going to be another steamy weekend in the city, and you are probably all shopped out from sample sales and Summer clearance sales, so if you are on the hunt for an air-conditioned environment for refuge, we would direct you to Paper Magazine's Super (Duper) Market starting today and running through Sunday at the Chelsea Market. The Shophound got a genuinely yummy sneak preview of this fabulous food fair yesterday, and left stuffed but wanting to come back for more. Paper Editor and Publisher Kim Hastreiter has collected more than 50 up-and-coming independent food purveyors and restaurants ranging from wineries, olive oil producers, chocolatiers, delis and, of course bakeries from the both the East Coast (read mostly Brooklyn) and the West. There will be familiar names like Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster and ageless designer Norma Kamali's olive oils as well as lot of discoveries, but it's unlikely you won't find something there to surprise and delight your palate. We had lots of samples, and higlights (many pictured below) included some of the best sesame noodles we have tasted from erstwhile Chinatown legend Shorty Tang & Sons, a tasty, artisanal take on gefilte fish from The Gefilteria (taking orders for the High Holidays) that could change your mind about the sometimes divisive Jewish staple, Bourbon-Madagascar vanilla bean marshmallows from S'more Bakery that will make you see that campfire treat in a totally new light, burnt sugar espresso shortbread from Greenpoint's Ovenly bakery, the debut of Mile End Deli's new in-house made bagels, richly flavored olive oils from Sciabica's, and the list goes on. Hastreiter was able to attract the young, independent entrepreneurs by charging them absolutely nothing to participate in the event, and visitors will pay the same price (or lack thereof) in admission thanks to generous sponsorship from Target and American Express Blue Cash Preferred. American Express will even be offering a 10 percent discount to all shoppers who use any American Express Card on purchases up to $250 per merchant. So it's free admission with abundant food and air conditioning. Sounds like a no brainer, and a good excuse to cheat on your summer diet —if only for those noodles alone.

Paper Super (Duper) Market from Friday, July 13th through Sunday, July 15th at Chelsea Market, 410 West 16th Street at 9th Avenue, Chelsea
Friday & Sunday, 11 AM to 4 PM, Saturday, 11 AM to 6 PM, Free Admission
