FASHION WEEK SNAPSHOT SPRING 2014 : Models Swelter Stylishly At ØDD
September 5, 2013
New York Fashion Week officially starts today, but in an ever more crowded schedule, more and more designers are forced to push their shows a day earlier, so it really started yesterday. And so, The Shophound found ourself the Highline Hotel in Chelsea, which most New Yorkers would recognize as part of the General Theological Seminary, to see what the inventive Lower East Side boutique ØDD was offering as its private label collection for next Spring. As we made our way through the majestic, Gothic Revival complex to what was once known as the Hoffman Refectory we recalled visiting the same room a few years ago for a Loden Dager presentation, and that even in February, it was a bit stuffy in what would probably otherwise have seemed like a drafty, cavernous room. Well, that was nothing compared to a relatively cool evening in September. It was hard to fully appreciate ØDD's technology-inspired collection what with the models melting and all. Never say their job isn't hard. Only a half-hour into a 90-minute presentation the models were visibly glistening with perspiration as they stood at attention around the platform with spotlights beaming down and makeup artists circling to blot their mortified faces. Suffering in particular were a few unfortunate guys contending with jackets, knit cardigans or lightweight leather pieces which wouldn't have otherwise seemed especially toasty, but on this occasion were causing that epic kind of sweating that just. Wouldn't. Stop. Perhaps ØDD can serve as a reminder to other designers staging static presentations to keep an eye on ventilation and hydration as Fashion Week charges ahead through the last weeks of Summer.
