FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Housing Works' Fashion For Action Returns This Wednesday
November 18, 2013
Though we are in the thick of Sample Sale season, one of city shoppers' favorite events of a different sort is happening again on Wednesday night. Housing Works' Fashion for Action turns Chelsea's most popular charity shop into a deep designer discounter for a brief time when 250 coveted brands donate fresh, unworn merchandise to be sold at thrift shop prices. Designer labels like Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Theory, Brooks Brothers Black Fleece and Tory Burch among many others are usually represented in abundance. While the sale will be open to the public from Thursday November 21 through the following Sunday, experienced bargain hunters know that the best bargains are found at the Gala party on Wednesday night. Last year's Gala was a just a bit subdued due to a feakish, Post-Superstorm Sandy snowstorm, but, weather permitting, this year's 10th Anniversary edition looks like a strong return to form. It's an event always worth going out of your way for, and tickets are still available HERE starting at $150. The price more than pays for itself in discounts, and more importantly, makes up part of the event's total proceeds which will go to support Housing Works' mission of ending the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS. This year's event will focus specifically on help for the charity's HIV-positive transgender clients. At the very least, you might get a chance to meet glamorous Oscar-nominated actress Particia Clarkson who is one of the event's co-chairs for the third time.
We suggest buying a ticket and arriving early. The prices are so good that items from the sale have been known to show up on eBay within hours, priced to make a profit for the sellers yet still deeply discounted from their original tags —making it a sale worth catching and a cause worth supporting.
