BURGERS OUT, GOLF IN: Peter Millar Bringing Its Game To Madison Avenue
April 17, 2014
After a successful series of successful pop-up stores in midtown, preppy clothing brand Peter Millar will open a flagship store at 536 Madison Avenue between 54th and 55th Streets, which, according to Google Maps is the former home of a Burger Heaven restaurant (pictured below). Once the construction crew scrubs the site of the distinctive greasy aroma, the company will take the two story space for offices and a showroom upstairs and a 1,700 square foot retail store on the street level that will be large enough to showcase the entirety of the brand's offerings. Though it is known for its colorful preppy sportswear for men and women (yes, it has a boutique in Palm Beach). the brand has become increasingly known for its golf apparel, dressing several pro players for PGA tournaments. Though the location is a few blocks below Madison Avenue's luxury sweet spot between 57th and 72nd Streets, it is in the middle of a cluster of other boutiques from IWC Schaffhausen, Officine Panerai and Alfred Dunhill which, like Peter Millar, are owned by that other Paris based luxury group Compagnie Financière Richemont SA. No opening date has been announced, but we are guessing that it should be open in time for golf season —whenever that is.
