The Rag & Bone Sample Sale is Moving
. . . To California?

Steven Alan Moves Off-Site (UPDATED) + Alice & Olivia, Nautica, Luxury Watches and Lanvin?

From the Steven Alan Sample Sale, L to R, Classic Pocket tee $68 $40, blue plaid Masters shirt $198 $65, women's Fargo top $188 $55, Felicity jumpsuit $275 $85, black piped Lily bag $198 $60

We are getting into the thick of things this week as the sales begin to pile up. Some major players return including one longtime favorite with a major twist. On top of all that, Splendid and Ella Moss have extended their sale into this week, and Michael Bastian has created an online flash-sale sequel if you missed him over the weekend. Here are some more highlights:

Another contemporary powerhouse hits 260 Fifth Avenue this week. ALICE and OLIVIA opened yesterday and runs through Saturday with Stacy Bendet's immensely popular collections (selections pictured below). Expect crowds throughout the week.

Local boutique mini-mogul STEVEN ALAN's seasonal sample sales have been a major draw for years, generating blocks-long lines through TriBeCa even as Alan has experimented with online alternatives to reduce the crush. This season, he has finally allowed the experts at 260SampleSale to take over  the nuts and bolts of his sample sale (they even have ApplePay now) at their Greene Street location in SoHo. As always, the sale will include both the ever expanding house label -including those ever-popular shirts (pictured above)– as well as other labels that Alan carries in his stores. Look for the lines to start forming on Tuesday through Sunday.
(See update review below)
Also on Tuesday, mainstream label NAUTICA is joining with stars bag-makers KIPLING for a three-day sale at Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Shop through Thursday, but get a sitter because your little kids and strollers will be personae non-gratae at the sale.

This one we had to think about for a minute before we even posted about it. LANVIN is holding a sample sale at C21-Edition at the flagship Century 21, which should cause great excitement, but it is really a relocation of the strictly enforced invitation only Friends and Family sale that have taken place seasonally over the years. While at department stores, "Friends and Family" usually means "anyone who walks through the door", for European luxury brands like Lanvin, it really means that you need to be expressly invited and on the list. However, C21-Edition is not exactly a private venue, and sometimes, as persistent crashers at Christian Louboutin sales can attest, the restrictiveness of door policies at such events can vary from mount to moment. If you are a Lanvin fan looking to get your hands on some of beloved designer Alber Elbaz's last collections for the label, then it my be worth a long shot to get in, but we can promise nothing, so take you chances if you are so inclined.
UPDATE NOTE: "The Grapevine" is telling us that the guest list will not be heavily enforced, so entry should be easy with or without an invitation.

Real luxury watch sales are not so common on the sample sale schedule. It has been several seasons since Tourneau has unloaded outdated and discontinued models at off-site sales, but Two noted swift watchmakers have joined forced to clear out some back stock at the Metropolitan Pavilion for two days starting on Thursday. FREDERIQUE CONSTANT and ALPINA will be taking up to 75% off their swiss-made timepieces through Friday, so anyone looking to add to their watch wardrobes should make time to stop by.

As always, exact locations and hours can be found in our SALE ROLL sidebar at left along with late-breaking sales that we are always working to add as soon as we can. Next week, look for another Theory and Helmut Lang sale, Italian menswear from Canali, perennial faves Nanette Lepore and Seize sur Vingt as well as another multi-location blowout from Madewell and J.Crew to name just a few events.

From the Alice + Olivia sale, L to R, Embellished Jacket $1,398 $299, Bohemian Paisley Maxi-Dress $495 $199, Embroidered Jacket $660 $279, Embroidered Dress $598 $269, Box Pleat Boat neck Dress $368 $159, Embroidered Skirt $798 $279

After the Friend's & Family preview, we can report that the move off site has been a successful move for STEVEN ALAN's Sample Sale. As expected, the folks at 260SampleSale have created a well-organized environment in their Greene Street location that is easy to shop. Will manic shoppers rip it all apart? Probably, but for now, the sale is well organized with tons of merchandise. There are price lists for the house label (see them after the jump) and all non-Steven Alan branded merchandise is a hefty 75% off the original price, which means you can pick up a pair of Vans for as low as $15. Shoes and accessories are located on the lower level (pictured above) and there were lots of them including covetable brands like Common Projects and exclusive versions of Wolverine's 1000 Mile Boot which never go on sale. On the street level, Men's has the majority of the racks and the house brand and 3rd party labels are carefully separated into separate sections for easier shopping. House brand merchandise is arranged by size while 3rd party march is by style —mostly. All in all it was much easier to shop than the previous Steven Alan sales in his own showroom. Hopefully it will stay that way. After the jump: Price Lists
