Fashion News: Bloggers Hit Saks and more

Saks2 Our hats are off to The Sartorialist, as usual. The burgeoning blog superstar has been featured in a series of windows at Saks Fifth Avenue where their cunning visual staff has recreated his website in three dimensions. Of course, we at The Shophound are big fans of The Sartorialist, so kudos to Scott Schuman. Now, if we could just get a little bit of that attention...

2006_10_bestbuyuws Leave it to the folks at Curbed to create a rendering that gives us chills. The Shophound was anxious to see what exciting retail tenants would fill the luxe new Robert A.M. Stern building at 15 Central Park West. It's a choice location in a tony neighborhood that has been newly revitalized by Time Warner Center, and it looks like the tenant will be...Best Buy? It's not that we have anything against Best Buy, but on Central Park West?

UWS Rising #3: 15 Central Park West's... Best Buy?! (Curbed)

Ewiedemann_afitchb It's almost too perfect. Lancôme has officially announced that the latest face to represent the venerable French beauty maison is Elletra Rossellini Weidemann, the daughter of one of their most popular models, the iconic Isabella Rossellini. We're not sure, but this may be the first case of a daughter taking over her mother's former contract. Weidemann, for her part manages lo look a little like her mother, a little like her grandmother, Ingrid Bergman, and a lot like her own beautiful self.

Blog Spotlight: The Sartorialist, Diane A Shaded View on Fashion

Recently we found a couple of blogs that rise above the din of the ever expanding Blogosphere (Blogverse? whatever). We don't have all day to sit in front of the computer, but we make time for these two.

Sartorialist

The Sartorialist is an anonymous blogger who appears to work in fashion, but this blog turns an expert eye to the individual style of real people on the streets of New York and beyond. Normally we don't care for "real people" fashion. We would rather see gorgeous models, but this blog convinces even The Shophound that the most stylish are walking down the streets of the city right along with us. Read and learn. You will never leave the house looking sloppy again.

Logo_1Diane, A Shaded View on Fashion is a blog from designer-photographer-stylist and all around fashion insider (we don't use the -ista word) Diane Pernet. We can follow Diane all around the world, and track the progress of her traveling "You Wear It Well" festival of short films on fashion and style. Diane also seeks out the designers you haven't heard of from around the world. Thank her for inviting us along.

Linkage For The Shut-In

It's raining, it's pouring. If you are a classicist, then the old man is snoring, and for Donna Summer fans, my love life is boring. We don't know what that means, but we do know that the last time we went out on a day like this, our umbrella blew out and we had to sprint to the Apple Store with our pants soaked up to mid thigh. Classy! Here are some things to tide you over until our feet get back on the dry pavement:

  • Cheryl Shops takes up the fug slack with her brief but laserlike critique of  various CFDA award appearances.
  • Is it dessert or t-shirts? Who cares. We like both, and we love the clever logo. Queerty introduces us to Johnny Cupcakes.
  • Flashlighttag spotlights new independent designers with online shopping and a blog.
  • Meanwhile, Go Fug Yourself has been meditating deeply on the faux tanning epidemic.
  • If you like the unique syntax of The Manolo, you may enjoy Todo's blog about Japanese style. We're talking rainy day shut-in ironic enjoyment here.
  • La Pulga Diva is brimming with shopping tips and bargains.
  • Shoppingblog.com is always inspiring when you are stuck for a gift or just looking to see the latest absurd item being foisted on the unsuspecting public, like a $17,000 diamond pacifier.

Hopefully that will keep you all busy until we can dissect Alex K's latest

Blog Spotlight: Cheryl Shops

CherylshopsLet's take a moment to recognize Cheryl Shops, a fellow blogger who is chronicling her own shopping adventures through the city. In addition, Cheryl gives us lots of valuable information about bargains and sample sales. The Shophound doesn't usually share this sort of knowlege because, frankly, we don't need any more people to elbow out of the way while reaching for that Dsquared2 belt or those Earnest Sewn jeans. Thankfully for you, Cheryl is far more generous than we are, and we think you will enjoy her musings on fashion and New York's endless pastime. Yes, Cheryl, we will get along very well.
