The Gant Sample Sale Reliably Returns Next Week

Gant_SM-01
Like the most trustworthy clockwork, the Gant Sample Sale will return for some late-summer bargain shopping on Tuesday August 20th at 260SampleSale's namesake NoMad location. As usual, one can expect a vast selection of classic sportswear with a very subtle dash of fashion spice. It's hasn't been quite the bonanza it once was in the days of the Michael Bastian collaboration and more the fashion forward Gant Rugger label, but it is still a valuable resource for those who can't get enough classic sportswear pieces at greatly reduced prices —especially for those who are fortunate to be sample size as most of the merchandise will be. Look to start lining up on Thursday the 20th of August. See our SALE ROLL sidebar for details and more sales.

Versace, Gant, Tocca & More Present Holiday Sample Shopping Starting Today

GANT_SampleSale
It's the last week before Christmas, and the onslaught of sample sales will be letting up just a bit until after New Years, but that doesn't mean that the schedule will be going completely dark. There are even a couple of heavy hitters on deck for last minute shopping. Here are some highlights:

There are five prominent sales kicking off today, Tuesday the 20th, that might offer some useful opportunities for last minute Holiday gift buyers, the most prominent being VERSACE's four-day blowout at Soffer Haskin near Penn Station. Look for full Men's and Women's offerings from a resilient designer label that looks to be on the rise once more.
Heading east to 260 Fifth Avenue, GANT (pictured above) will be returning for its seasonal sale. Look for hefty discounts in the 75% range making it a good opportunity for last minute gifts and stocking up on basics. Shop through Friday the 23rd.
Down in SoHo, a trio of sales will launch on Tuesday including just-posted, three-day blowout at ZADIG & VOLTAIRE offering 70% off men's and women's collections through the 22nd.
The TOCCA BEAUTY and S’WELL sale at 150 Greene Street is essentially a four day gift shopping stop featuring scented candles and all manner of home fragrances alongside eco-conscious water bottles.
Finally, one block west shoppers will find sprawling sale from WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND running clear through to next Wednesday (not including the Holiday Weekend). This sale promises up to 90% off a slew of vintage wares, and though lesser known labels will definitely outnumber the coveted luxury brands like Chanel and Dior, that means that there will be some great bargains on other carefully curated vintage items including, if past sales are any indication, wide assortments of leather jackets and furs.

Check our SALE ROLL sidebar at left for details, locations and late breaking sales. Next week, the sale schedule mostly takes a much needed hiatus, but listings are already drifting in for January including Scotch & Soda and more. Until then, Happy Holidays.

Ralph Lauren Home, Gant, Selima's Sunglass Blowout, The CFDA Incubator & More

It's starting to look like we might have a somewhat busier Summer Sample sale season than we have had in the past, and as we head into the independence Day weekend, there's plenty to keep shoppers spending. Here are some highlights:

MONDAY JUNE 27th
A few popular sales got an early start yesterday including seasonal favorite RALPH LAUREN HOME. As usual, this sale is at the Metropolitan Pavilion North (entry on 19th Street) through Wednesday. Look for tons substantial but slightly random furniture pieces (i.e. don't look for matched sets) as well as heaps of merchandise from other home lines like bed & Bath and tabletop. Shop through Thursday
Eyewear maven SELIMA OPTIQUE is having a blowout at her Bond Street headquarters that includes deep discounts on her stylish sunglasses and frames as well as the of other designers. Vintage styles as well as accessories will also be included, and a 20% discount will also be applied to optical lenses. Shop through Thursday the 30th, just in time to fortify you summer sunglass wardrobe.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28th
It's time for the GANT sale again (pictured again). We have been through the years with this one since it was a small showroom affair, and it has gone through some twists and turns. It has once again transformed somewhat with the changes in the company's product lineup and the exit of both the creative director and the end of the Gant by Michael Bastian collection. At yesterday's preview, we saw neatly arranged racks of merchandise with no size markers. That's because this year all apparel is sample sized M, so, for the most part, other sized men can keep walking past 260 Fifth Avenue. There is still a great deal of aged merchandise (noted by the redesigned labels) which sale regulars will probably recognize, and a smattering of women's merchandise including some shoes and some apparel whose fabrics and prints reveal it to be from the Bastian line of several years ago. The prices appear to have gone down a bit compared to last season (see the lists after the jump), however, and the best deal is likely to be found in the back where all shoes are a mere $30 including a range of sizes. Shop through Sunday the 3rd by which time some additional discounts will have been taken if past form holds.
Also on Tuesday, popular chain DESIGUAL will be bringing its dizzying printed apparel back to Clothingline one more time. The label seems to be hitting the sale circuit quite regularly these days, which we are sure is good news for its fans. This event run-through Thursday the 30th

WEDNESDAY JUNE 29th
The big event for Wednesday will be a sale of the emerging American designers at the CFDA Fashion Incubator in the Garment District. Led by accessory label HÆRFEST and rising star THADDEUS O’NEIL, the lineup also includes Alix, Brother Vellies, DDugoff, Haus Alkire, Ji Oh, K/LLer Collection and Yestadt Millinery. The event runs through Thursday the 30th, and offers a great opportunity to support some of tomorrow's important designers as they build their businesses.

Be sure to keep an eye on our SALE ROLL sidebar at left for locations and other details. next week, look out for Melissa Shoes and New York's first sample sale from swimwear masters Orlebar Brown.

Line Up For Serious High Fashion Sales With Proenza Schouler, Alexandre Plokhov & Marchesa + A Theory Double-Header & More

GANTSAMPLESALEFW15
There may not be a more jam-packed week of sample sales than this one, so get ready. There's a sale for anything and everything somewhere, so here are just a few highlights to get your planning started:

Things have already gotten started in a big way with GANT on Wooster Street in SoHo (pictured above with price list after the jump) featuring a huge selection of almost entirely sample-sized goods (meaning size Medium on top and 32 on the bottom) and contemporary gave REBECCA TAYLOR at 260 Fifth Avenue. Both of these run through Saturday the 21st with likely price reductions toward the end of the week for the patient.

The big glamour sales start today beginning with PROENZA SCHOULER down at C21 Edition in the financial district. Officially starting today, reports feature an early opening for the public yesterday due to a mistakenly sent email but there still should be plenty of goods left including handbags and shoes at 70% Off and more.

Those in the market for a discount on dramatic eveningwear, and we're talking feathers and sequins here, will be heading west to the Starrett-Lehigh building for the 3-day MARCHESA sale. Look for the most expensive Couture line to still be expensive even at 65% to 70% Off, but the more affordable Marchesa Notte line should offer some more reasonably priced Holiday party-wear. A full size range, 0-12, is promised through Thursday the 19th.

Speaking of eveningwear, VERA WANG is kicking off her 7-day sale today at 151 Wooster street featuring her luxury ready-to-wear collection (sorry brides, you will get a different sale another time). Magnanimous lady that she is, she will be sharing the space with NEST Home Fragrances creating a unique opportunity to pick up a party frock and a hostess gift at the same sale.

But what about shoes? today also kicks off a 3-day SERGIO ROSSI sale at Metropolitan Pavilion offering 60% to 80% off the Italian luxury label's collections for Men and Women.

Those in the market for something a  bit more every-day will be converging on Clothingline in the Garment District for the first of what is likely to be many THEORY sales. They are all a little bit different, and this one is expected to focus on Fall Womenswear —although that could mean anything.

Come Wednesday, there still may be time to make an appointment for the OSCAR de la RENTA sample sale at... Well, we don't know where, exactly. They only tell you where it is if you make an appointment, so you had be a serious customer. See the sidebar for details.

No such appointment is necessary at CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA's two-day sale at the Roosevelt Hotel starting on Wednesday. Known for whimsy, lavish decoration and especially vertiginous heel treatments, her shoes are not for the faint of heart, but brave footwear enthusiasts will get up to 70% Off what is promised to be a broad size range of 34 to 42.

Oh yeah, there's another THEORY sale starting on Wednesday, too. This one's for men only at the Chelsea Market through Sunday.

On Thursday, men after a more directional fashion look will be at ALEXANDRE PLOKHOV two-day sale in the Flatiron District. Plokhov is a longtime insider favorite who has also been gaining fans as the men's designer at Helmut Lang. Look for his brilliantly tailored menswear as well as his more recently launched women's collection.

More shoes? Stylist-turned-cobbler TABITHA SIMMONS will open her Starrett-Lehigh building showroom on Thursday for a two-day sample sale of her chic footwear.

Of course, there's soon much more including LELA ROSE, YIGAL AZROUËL, HANRO, PSYCHO BUNNY, JACK ROGERS, SHOSHANNA, and more, and if this is anything like last week, several more good sales that we haven't even heard about yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the SALE ROLL sidebar at left for details and the late breaking sales that we will try and post as quickly as possible.
Next week looks like a welcome lull before Thanksgiving, but last minute additions are likely to appear. In the meantime, shop wisely.

SAMPLE CIRCUIT:

Proenza Schouler, Frette, Vera Wang
+
More, Cheaper Gant

The usually spotty Summer Sample Sale Season is unusually busy this week —so much so that our friends at 260SampleSale, who are usually on a break around this time of year, are plugging away with two busy venues for the next couple of weeks. Their big event, VERA WANG, at its spacious SoHo space will begin on Thursday featuring the designer's signature bridal collection and as her ready to wear lines. Uptown, the blowout GANT sale at the 260 Fifth Avenue home base has been extended for another entire week including the final reductions that  most of us were expecting to see implemented last weekend. Now prices are really low —most of them over 80% off retail— with shirts and pants at $30 and whatever shoes left at a mere $24. It's a giant bargain bin that still has plenty of stock, but at those prices, it should be going fast.

The week's hottest ticket, however is likely to be the PROENZA SCHOULER sale at C21-Edition in the financial district opening today. It's only three days long, but as is typical for this venue, features long hours starting daily at 8 AM and staying open until 9 PM. Expect a lot of handbags at this sale, though a good amount of apparel is also expected.

Finally, Italian luxury linen specialist FRETTE will be setting up shop through the weekend at Chelsea Market starting on Wednesday featuring its sumptuous bedding as well as towels and bathrobes.

Next week, things may look a bit quieter, but get ready for FIVESTORY's off-site warehouse sale which, for the first time, has moved from its cramped Bowery Hotel space to the dramatically more spacious 260SampleSale Mercer Street facility. It has been known as a treasure trove, and now it will be much easier to shop. keep an eye on our SALE ROLL sidebar at left for updated information on all sales as well as late-breaking events.

Usually, at this time of year, the sample sales have pretty much wound down as you can see in our much shorter SALE ROLL sidebar at left, but there are a couple of good events worth checking out this week including a return to form for an old favorite. It has been years now since we have missed a GANT Sample Sale, and they have taken on different forms from time to time. Originally a heavily discounted showroom affair featuring an extensive sample line in multiple size ranges, it moved to 260 Fifth Avenue and got a little more expensive and a lot bigger featuring stock as well as samples. When Gant Rugger designer Christopher Bastin took over the entire brand, the sale moved to a slightly smaller venue and again limited itself to mostly a much narrower selection of samples in a reduced size range. This season, however, the sale starting today at 260 Fifth is running a couple of months later than usual, and instead of just the usual samples, shoppers are being treated to a big old-fashioned sample and warehouse clearance featuring deep discounts and an abundance of stock in all sizes. This is the sale that Gant Sample Sale shoppers have been missing for a while, so they should make sure to line up and stock up, because there's no telling if it will be repeated like this next season. The assortments include the Gant, Gant Rugger and YALE Co-op labels for both men and women and, though the Gant by Michael Bastian collection has been discontinued, there are still some good leftover pieces mixed in from last Spring's penultimate collection that are good finds for fans of that much loved label. Savings are advertised at up to 75% off, but a look at the price list shows that that savings can easily run up to 80% to 85% off. The best bargain was a great assortment of shoe, particularly some great, classic styles for men at a measly $40 each which is almost 90% off in many cases. There is a ton of merchandise, but we are reminded that the last time Gant held a similar end-of-season clearance, they never reduced prices, even on the last day. The prices are good enough that we would recommend just getting whatever looks good. Even if they do re-reduce on the final days this weekend, it will still be a worthwhile buy. Also worth checking out this week are DESIGUAL's seasonal sample sale at Clothingline starting today which promises savings on its signature colorful prints for the whole family as well as a special sale of Handbags and Accessories from MACKAGE, also starting today on the garment district. Though that's all for this week, next week promises major sales from VERA WANG and a new, bigger venue for uptown boutique FIVESTORY's seasonal off-site clearance. Keep an eye on the SALE ROLL for details as well as the odd late breaking event, and see more images from the Gant sale in the gallery above including full price lists as well as the official flyer after the jump.

SALE NOTES:

Gant's Sale Is All Samples

GantSS-1
Gant's seasonal sample sale starts today, and The Shophound got a preview yesterday evening of what the brand's fans can expect. As we had presumed, this sale is almost entirely composed of samples from this Fall and previous seasons. That means that there is an abundance for men if you wear a size 32 pant, a medium shirt and a size 48 (38 R U.S. size) jacket. For the rest of us, it's slim pickings, although there are some great scarves, hats, belts and other accessories. No shoes are in evidence this time around, and there are bins of colorful Gant socks. We saw very few pieces from the final Gant by Michael Bastian collection, and much of it was from previous seasons. There was a bit of Rugger on the racks, but most of the merchandise was from the main Gant label.

Where we did see the Bastian label was in the women's section where there was an array of sizes, but as that brand was discontinued for women with the Spring '13 line, most of it was from earlier seasons. Still, it was a very limited in production, so female Michael Bastian fans might be pleased at one last chance to grab some well-priced pieces.

Overall, this was a pretty sparsely stocked sale, which is probably why it is only running for four days. it is also about a month earlier than Gant usually holds its sample sale, so perhaps they weren't ready to release more of the Fall samples, or maybe they are planning another end-of-season Warehouse Sale like we saw this past February.
Who can say?
This is what's available right now, so if you are the right size, then have at it, otherwise, we'll be waiting and hoping for the next one. Have a look at the sale and price lists in the gallery below, and see the SALE ROLL at left for more details.

Everybody needs a little break, and the end of August and first couple of weeks in September are the perfect time to rest up. Alexander McQueen kickstarted the Sample Sale season last week with a rare sale that was, by all reports, met with an extremely enthusiastic response. Things pick up even more this week with a new version of SCOOP NYC's WAREHOUSE SALE. Now that it has lost one of its Meatpacking District spaces, the chain has turned to the busy space at 260 Fifth Avenue for a blowout clearance running through Sunday the 21st featuring 80% off original retail prices that starts today. If the response to the VIP preview is any indication it may be something of a madhouse. Here is your last chance for bargains on the Spring 2014 season. We saw lots of shoes, and a random but abundant array of merchandise for Men and Women. While there were a few items, like women's Rag & Bone suede shorts that seemed to be in good supply, it was mostly a little of this and a little of that from most of the chain's contemporary and designer labels. If last yesterday's arrangement holds, shoppers should expect a lot of merchandise arranged mostly by category only, and not size. Also, there are no dressing rooms, so expect to try on in the aisles, and prepare accordingly. For men, there was a particular abundance of Orlebar Brown and Pantone swimwear, which is worth stocking up on. Pantone and S.C.P. tees were also notably plentiful. There was a smaller selection of handbags and accessories, but this one is mostly all about the clothes and shoes. Have a look at a few glances in the gallery above. There are a few other notable sales happening this week as well:

FURLA's popular accessories will be even more well priced starting today through Thursday on Park Avenue South. Always a popular resource for stylish handbags and wallets, the sale promises up to 80% off retail prices.

Shophound fave GANT has broken its clockwork-like sale pattern this year. Normally we have to wait until early October, but this time, the sample sale is starting this Thursday the 18th, and promises Men's and Women's samples for the Fall 2015 season only. From what we have come to expect, this sale really should be samples only meaning Medium sizes only for both genders. They could slip in some Spring clearance goods, but we wouldn't bet on it since they will be in 260's smaller venue at 225 Fifth Avenue, and will only be running for four days through Sunday the 21st, meaning little time or space for much more than what is advertised. It will feature all of Gant's labels, and even the conservative main brand has gotten a lot zippier lately. Gant Rugger is now offering a women's collection, and this Fall is the last season for Michael Bastian fans to pick up his collaboration line, so prepare to shop early.

After it clears out the ESCADA sale that is currently running through Wednesday, Soiffer-Haskin's Midtown West location will feature 50% to 70% off retail prices on Swiss made luxury watches from MOVADO, EBEL and CONCORD ranging from discreet, classic steel models to extravagant, limited edition models in gold with precious gemstones. For those feeling less spendy, there will also be fashion watches from popular designers like HUGO BOSS, LACOSTE, FERRARI & JUICY COUTURE. Starts Friday the 19th.

See out SALE ROLL at left for details and locations and more breaking sales.

SAMPLE CIRCUIT:

A Fully Booked Sale Week With Gant, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Louboutin, Walter Steiger & Much More

GantSaleSS14
It's the middle of May, folks, and the Sample Sale Season is firing on all cylinders.
This week brings a fully packed schedule that should keep any eager shopper busy all day, every day. Yesterday, The Shophound previewed the GANT sample sale at 225 Fifth Avenue (pictured above). This sale has always been one of our favorites, but it has gone through a few different incarnations in recent seasons. The latest version, if it follows last season's pattern, should be a two part affair, This week it is almost exclusively a sale of showroom samples in limited sizes —really limited, as in only size Medium tops and 32 pants. The company has even reduced the number of sizes in its sample line, which is why it has moved to the slightly smaller venue it currently occupies. If you can fit the samples, it offers all the things Gant fans love, including all three labels like the main line, Rugger and Gant by Michael Bastian. Other sizes should sit tight, because in a few months —probably closer to the end of the Summer— Gant can be expected to close out their inventory for the season at 70% off. It's not quite the same as the old dirt-cheap showroom sample sales Gant used to hold, but things change and life goes on. See the price list below, and details at left on the SALE ROLL.
Anyway, here are just a few more choice sales this week that will get shoppers excited.

It's CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN Sale Week which should get all the shoe shoppers out with their wiliest schemes to get into this strictly-invitation-only-except-sometimes-when-we-feel-like-letting-others-in sale. Therre's no guarantee of entry without being on the list, but people do slip in and this seasons reports seem to be positive. Attempt entry at your own risk. You may have better luck closer to Friday when the sale ends.

Anyone uninterested in the hassle of slipping into the Louboutin sale, but still interested in glamorous designer shoes at great prices should hit the WALTER STEIGER sale starting on Wednesday the 14th. All are invited this season, but RSVP by Email is required for a particular entry time. We have heard that prices start at $50 for this sale which is a steal.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA is in the middle of a sale at Soiffer Haskin right now which we hear is a bonanza featuring lots of day clothes, dresses, shoes, accessories and, of course, the extravagant gowns that light up red carpets. These sales don't happen every season, so who knows when the legendary designer may be holding another one? The discount is a whopping 80% off, but with Oscars prices, that means that items often still top $1000, so choose your purchases carefully. Runs through tomorrow the 14th

If you still want a glamorous gown, Brazilian designer CARLOS MIELE is closing his Meatpacking district boutique in favor of a move elsewhere which means that everything in the store is 80% off including those sinuous gowns that always grace his window. This one runs through the end of May when the store will shutter for good, leaving yet another empty storefront on the western end of 14th Street.

If you really want a bargain, THE LIMITED is holding their famous showroom sale in NoHo starting today and running through Wednesday the 14th featuring bins of goods starting at $8 each and topping out not much higher. It's a great source for cheap t-shirts and sportswear and whatever else you can grab

Designer ADAM LIPPES is back in business. His expansive sample sales once featured racks of his signature, luxurious pima cotton tees, but this time around he seems to be simply focused on his women's ready-to-wear collection in the West Village. Rediscover his label starting today through Thursday the 15th.

Starting today the 13th, Stylish men who love classic British and Italian sportswear should head over to the M5 SHOWROOM in SoHo for great savings on favorite labels like JOHN SMEDLEY, STONE ISLAND, ASPESI, DRUMOHR and more. Runs through Friday the 16th.

CFDA favorites PUBLIC SCHOOL will be featured as always at the popular showroom THE NEWS, whose dale starting on Thursday the 15th will also include hot brands like COMMON PROJECTS, TIM COPPENS, CHEAP MONDAY, SACAI and a host of others. Runs through Saturday the 17th.

And that's just a sampling. Check out our SALE ROLL at left for more information about sales this week from VERONICA BEARD, TRACY REESE, BONPOINT, LOEFFLER RANDALL, TER et BANTINE, ARAKS, JONATHAN ADLER and so much more.
Next week, JAMES PERSE, PIAZZA SEMPIONE and TIBI lead the charge with more to follow. Stay tuned.
