UNIQLO snags Cloak, Phillip Lim, Alice Roi and More for Exclusives
October 23, 2006
Can a week go by without a UNIQLO item from The Shophound?
No.
Today brings the news that the Japanese powerhouse's Designer Invitation Project has signed a mix of up-and-coming American and Japanese designers for exclusive 8-piece capsule collections to start arriving in all their stores early next year. First on deck are luxury cashmere designers Lutz & Patmos whose line will bow in February to be followed by Japan's HALB for men and Kino for women in March, hometown favorites, Alexander Plokhov for Cloak and Alice Roi in April, 3.1 Phillip Lim (pictured at left) for women and Satoru Tanaka for men in May followed by G.V.G.V. from Japan in June. It's a win-win for everybody. We the customers get great designer clothes at UNIQLO's teeny tiny prices, and emerging designers get huge exposure in lucrative foreign markets. Look for The Shophound to be first in line when the Cloak stuff goes on sale.
If you haven't seen the container stores, here's the latest schedule for locations.
10/28: Astor Place at Lafayette Street
11/5: 17th Street and Broadway
11/6-10: UNIQLO flagship store- 546 Broadway, between Prince and Spring streets
More sketches after the jump.
